Prof. Dr. Panayotis G. Michaelides

Prof. Dr. Panayotis G. MICHAELIDES is a Full Professor at the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and f. Research Associate at the London School of Economics (LSE). He is recognised among the top 0.5% of Economists in the world (ScholarGPS, 2025), and his research is among the most downloaded worldwide (IDEAS-RePEc, 2025). A prolific author, he has authored 250 papers (Research-Gate, 2025), including more than 100 in refereed Journals (Research-Gate, 2025), as well as nine (9) books. He has also received the Highly Commended Paper Award for Excellence from Emerald. His research interests lie at the intersection of Economics, Finance & Data Science, with Political Economy.

He has acted multiple times as a Referee for more than fifty well-known Journals, and has twice been selected to act as a referee for works by Nobel Prize laureates. Recently, he authored an international book titled "History of Economic Ideas", which has already reached 9,000 online downloads, and another one titled "21 Equations that Shaped the World Economy", both with the renowed publishers Palgrave-Macmillan and Springer.

He has 25 years of teaching experience at all levels, from first-year undergraduate students to postgraduate MSc and PhD programs in Economics, and has published numerous successful teaching materials. His work, funded by the EU, international corporations, and the banking sector, has seen him in roles such as Expert Consultant, Scientific Director, Principal Investigator and Senior Researcher. Holding a PhD, and three (3) MSc degrees in Mathematics, Economics, and Business, his journey began with a solid 5-year MEng in Mechanical Engineering, which provided him with a strong foundation in Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, and Computer Science.
